What is AIDS? Message board

Bayer heart surgery drug Trasylol kills 22,000 people before being withdrawn by FDA - Feb. 14, 2008

Swiss Change Safe Sex Message on HIV - Jan 31, 2008

With drugs like these, who needs disease? Osteoporosis drugs may cause severe pain, so if you're having problems and you are taking these drugs: Actonel, Actonel+Ca, Aredia, Boniva, Didronel, Fosamax, Fosamax+D, Reclast, Skelid, or Zometa look into these new findings: Here is an article about it and also the FDA's page about bisphosphonate drugs

New Jersey makes HIV testing routine - Legislation was signed into law today by Richard Codey, the Senate president serving as acting governor while Jon Corzine is on vacation. Many pharmaceutical companies are based in New Jersey, draw your own conclusions.

Woman Misdiagnosed With HIV Gets $2.5 Million - A jury awarded $2.5 million in damages to a woman who received HIV treatments for almost nine years before discovering she never actually had the virus that causes AIDS. Audrey Serrano said the powerful combination of drugs she took caused depression, chronic fatigue, loss of weight and appetite and inflammation of the intestine. Her doctor failed to order definitive tests even after monitoring of Serrano's treatment did not show the presence of HIV in her blood.

UN HIV estimates reduced to 33 million - November 2007. Also a thought-provoking commentary by an AIDS rethinker from Spain.

New green methods for coating drugs - Sept 14, 2007 - Some questions: Why have the coatings on drugs been so toxic until now? How many people take dozens of pills daily? What health problems have been caused by the coatings on pills and blamed on a disease? Why are we just now learning about this? When will the drug companies be held responsible for their deadly products?

Merck's experimental HIV vaccine fails in international trials, is discontinued - September 21, 2007, AP

India: The number of people estimated to be living with HIV/AIDS there is much lower than previous estimates. About 30 other countries in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean have revised their AIDS figures in the last few years, and almost all of them have shifted their counts down, according to UNAIDS. July 2007.

From the Centers for Disease Control: A correction - The federal agency is acknowledging over-estimating infections/full-blown cases in recent years, while also claiming the higher numbers did not affect federally-funded assistance programs for persons with HIV/AIDS. June 28, 2007. Thanks again to Michael Petrelis.

$25,000 CASH AWARD! for evidence about the accuracy of HIV tests - Alive & Well will present a cash award of $25,000 to the first person to locate a study that provides us with missing evidence about the accuracy of HIV tests, and in celebration of this important finding, will donate an additional $25,000 to Heifer International, a unique charity working to end hunger in the developing world using a holistic approach to building sustainable communities. May 2007.

2007 - Scientists have confirmed what many of us have always believed: Breastfeeding is good for babies - even in cases where the mother is HIV-positive.
Researchers in South Africa tracked 1,372 HIV-infected women and found a 4 percent risk of postnatal transmission of HIV to babies fed only breast milk for six months after birth. Infants who were breast-fed but also given baby formula or animal milk were almost twice as likely to become HIV-positive as those consuming breast milk alone, the study found. Babies fed solid foods in addition to breast milk were nearly 11 times more likely to become ill.
This important information may be found in Lancet, the British medical journal. Doctors should be aware of this new study. See also this article from the archives, Is breast still best?

San Francisco: The number of new AIDS cases has dropped further. For most people, this is good news! (Unless your funding relies on statistics...)
Michael Petrelis has looked into the latest figures from the San Francisco Department of Health. "Lowest Cases in 8 Years - 100 in '06" - November 2006.
Also a look at previous DPH reports to show the dramatic decline.

Michael Petrelis shares another great article, this one is from Nature Magazine: SF DPH Expert Says UNAIDS "Overestimates" HIV
This article is important because the "expert" quoted, Willi Mc Farland, once claimed that San Francisco's HIV rate was "sub-saharan," meaning it was very bad, now it seems Africa's HIV rates have been overestimated for years, so the comparison doesn't really work.
Use this link to go straight to the excerpt from Nature - Oct. 2006.

L.A. County D.A. Won't Act in Girl's AIDS-Related Death - The L.A. County district attorney's office said it would not file charges against Christine Maggiore, whose daughter died last year of what a county coroner ruled was AIDS-related pneumonia. But the Medical Board of California filed gross negligence charges against one of the girl's doctors. LA Times, September 16, 2006

ACLU Accuses San Francisco Of 'Misleading' AIDS Tests- June 2, 2006. "The actions of City Clinic should serve as a wake up call to public health officials on the importance of being honest with the public. You can't expect people to trust the government when the government proves that it isn't to be trusted..."

Harper's Magazine published an article by Celia Farber called "Out of Control - AIDS and the Corruption of Science." It tells the story of Joyce Ann Hafford, a healthy pregnant woman who was given toxic medicine and died as a result. The article also contains some information about Johnathan Fishbein, a whistleblower at the National Institutes of Health. From March 2006.

California considers names reporting of HIV-positive persons. - SF Chronicle, February 20, 2006. Why is this bad? No privacy.
How could names reporting possibly be a good thing? Perhaps the actual numbers are much lower than previously thought.

NIH has reinstated whistle-blower Dr. Jonathan Fishbein who alleged misconduct in federal AIDS research, raised questions about drug safety and exposed sexual harassment at the National Institutes of Health. - Dec. 29, 2005.

What has happened to Eliza Jane? An outspoken AIDS activist's young daughter has died after a brief illness. The girl had been in excellent health for most of her life. However, reporters have proclaimed that her death must have been caused by AIDS, but many disagree with this hasty conclusion, including a well-respected toxicologist. The report from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said that there was "evidence of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia," but that is not what other doctors concluded, who said Eliza's lungs showed no evidence of this. An allergic reaction to amoxicillin was most likely responsible for this tragedy.
More to come. Dec. 22, 2005.

San Francisco discovers that the oral HIV test produces many false positive test results! It seems at least 1 out of 4 of the roughly 200 positives detected by the new oral test turned out to be wrong. SF Chronicle, Dec 2005
